...updating my website at www.austinapache.co.uk (http://www.austinapache.co.uk)
There's a load more to do still regarding my own car, but in th emeantime a very nice chap in South Africa sent me a load of scans of old road tests etc so the site is now hopefully the definitive source of info on this rare beastie.
Feedback always appreciated! :car2:
Its certainly becomming a very detailed website!
How long until you actually have one sat on the drive? :D

I saw one for sale in Guernsey for £1400 landed in Portsmouth, and I was tempted but it was an auto with the strip speedo. So I rang the chap that bought mine 3 yrs ago, and asked him if he would do a straight swap so I could have my beloved baby back - but he wasn't interested
So, having ensured I get first dibs if he ever sells, I shall sit back for now and enjoy the BGT! Mind you I still hanker a desire for a MG 1300.
They're almost as rare, especially a decent one!
I'd thought about trying to find a 3dr 1300 before and fitting the Austin round dial dash instead of the strip one. 1300's are rare enough 3dr's are impossible!

The reason I sold my Apache is I figured it should be kept as near standard as possible. At that stage I was having thoughts towards teh darkside - minilite wheels, K series engine etc...Anyway, upshot was I decided the BGT was the way to go, but needed a custodian fo rthe Apache, hence the sale to a very keen 1100 Club member.
But, with two children now, I still think the 1300s are a real hoot as a small family car, with Mini like handling and more space to fit a K series engine! I don't mind if it is an MG, there are times when I look at the MG scene and think an Austin 1300GT would be a better option, at least that way it is a real Austin, and I would not have the indignity of being told it wasn't a proper MG (remember that letter in MG World when they featured a very smartly restored MG 1300!).
I'd ignore the 'its not a real MG' arguments... technically, anything after 1932 (or whenever) isnt a 'real' MG as the independant MG car company was taken over by the Morris Car Company :D
I can what ya mean about the Austin 1300 GT!
Brilliant little cars in the right colour (I saw a nasty looking brown one once) the one in Retro Cars a few months back sold me on that!
Austin 1300 Gt......MUST be ORANGE!:thumbs2:
