WHAT would James Bond make of it — a four-door, four-seater Aston Martin?
Perfect, perhaps, should 007 decide to settle down and have a FAMILY.
And the new Rapide has a thing or two to keep our most dashing agent in the manner to which he is accustomed.
It is top-secret for a start. It comes with champagne chiller, crystal glasses and a chess set made from hand-carved ivory.
The world’s most sumptuous car will be officially unveiled at next week’s Detroit Motor Show.
The Rapide pictured here was hand-built by a few key staff sworn to secrecy — and is the only one in existence.
I was the first journalist to give it a whirl on a high-security test track.
And though its six-litre engine gives it a stunning top speed of 186mph, Aston chiefs were so afraid it could be damaged they limited me to a piddly 30MPH.
The Rapide is due to hit showrooms in 2008 with a price tag of more than £170,000. The chess set is available as an optional extra at a mere £1,800.
The unveiling tops a remarkable year for Aston Martin in which the Warwickshire-based company enjoyed record sales of 4,500.
Boss Ulrich Bez called it “another milestone on the way to establishing Aston Martin as the ultimate prestige brand.”
Bond, meanwhile, will be seen in another special Aston soon in the next 007 movie Casino Royale — continuing a trend started by Sean Connery’s original hero and his DB5 in 1964 film Goldfinger.
