The future of the Ginetta racing series in the UK has been assured by a buy-out of the Yorkshire firm by GT racer Lawrence Tomlinson.
Tomlinson's firm the LNT Group is the European agent for the Panoz Esperante GT car and will field two of them in Europe from 2006. Now it has broadened its horizon with the purchase of Ginetta.
LNT's Richard Dean said 'Lawrence is a big fan of the series and wants to make sure it stays as a low-cost, entry level category which remains on a high profile package. It is a small British company - there aren't any more of those anymore - and this deal will underpin its long-term future.'
Dean also said that LNT would expand its operations throughout 2006. He added: 'This will be complimented by some exciting plans we have for later in the year.'
LNT have confirmed that current owner Martin Phaff will stay on at Ginetta, heading up all sales and race series co-ordination.
Tomlinson said: 'We want to create a motorsport centre of excellence in Yorkshire. Our European representation for Panoz will enable us to win at the highest level of International GT racing. That is complimented by Ginetta, offering us a unique opportunity to spot and nuture new driver talent.'
Ginetta provides two national championships, AVO Ginetta, which is one of Europe's largest single class one-make race series, and the PlayStation Juniors which caters for 14-17-year-olds.
