A friend of mine who recently bought a New ZS180 saloon rang me today to say that he was moving & that he was going to rent out his present home in Chatham,Kent. He said that he didn"t want to just leave the MG Maestro outside or sell it to a boy-racer or scrap it.
I said that I would like it for the new business (assuming it goes ahead - should know very soon). I also said that I have no where to put it or any cash to buy it.
Since that call I have now found an MG enthusiast friend who will look after it & the owner has said that it is up to me what I do with it. If it"s sold I think he wants around £1500 for it. He bought it about 7 years ago then fully restored it also with a Gold Seal engine which has done only 5000 miles.
He also used to have a 240BHP Turbo Maestro that is intil some lout set fire to it. That car was worked upon by Roger Parker of the MGOC & featured on Top Gear (such a waste). He does still have all the literature & video that went with that car which he said I could have. :)
His brother also has a Maestro Turbo which he took with him when he emigrated to Australia.

What colour is the car in question? I worked on his brother's car shortly before he emigrated to Oz.

Picked up this car today - No131, not in bad condition but by no means perfect.

Will probably sell it to an enthusiast (only) if the price is right.
Drives fine, accelerates like stink - It has a dump valve too.
All lights, wipers, horn etc work. Maybe a fuse but heated rear window & cigar lighter don"t work.
Interior is in generally good condition but one of the front seats has a small tear in the back & the MG logo on the drivers seat has faded. Headlining is near perfect. Car does want a very good valet as there is a lot of green on the bodywork (I don"t mean the BRG paintwork either:tongueout )
The bodywork is fairly good for the year but to enter it into a show it would I think require a respray. Wheels are original & are good, A very good clean would improve but a refurb would be best.

Here are a few pictures. Some before the valet & some after. It hasn"t been polished yet.
It will only allow me to upload 5 pictures.

Yes they did, and replacements are not easy to find! Martin Wood sourced some, a few years ago, but they were 'Yellow' and not 'Clear' as they should be!

I"m not sure whether to keep it as a project for the new business or let an enthusiast take it over. Make a sensible offer & it will be seriously considered.

I would actually like to see you keep it, because then I'm sure it would get the TLC it deserves.

Theres an MGF in the 'for sale' section as well for £5k :)

The correct driving lights were Lucas Dx95's in clear.
Your car has poor quality repro door decals and the wrong wheels (monty 6 inche wide instead of 5.5 inch Maestro ones)

I would imagine they wern"t put back on after the last paint job.
I also found out today that :-
The wheels are that of a Montego.
It also has a bleed valve under bonnet & at present it is running standard - apparently if it were adjusted it will go well over 200BHP. Also has a gasflow head.
It also has brand new oversized front vented brake discs too.
It is fitted with a brand new steering wheel.

You could keep it and use it as your courtesy car :car1:

We want Rover 25"s & 45"s for courtesy cars. i wouldn"t trust customers in a high powered classic.:(
For the same price, you could probably pick up some older 75's with the 1.8 engines and encourage some sales :)
Hi Andy, Go on keep it would look good in your collection.
The red pipeing is also missing out of the front and rear bumpers and the black inserts lower rear bumper.
Like the 131/505 decal.

It"s gone to a local lad who is going to restore it. It needed too much work for me to bother with I"m afraid, would have kept it had it been mint.
Thats a shame... it looks like I may have to replace my car soon with a much cheaper alternative!

WHY??? Oh why?
Unfortunatley I need to remove my monthly repayments from my finances in order to get a mortgage - so its a case of pay upto the 50% marker, hand the keys back and gain an extra 25% worth of mortgage allowance!
That means my next car will have to be bought cash from what little reserves I can muster and whatever I choose will have to get me through at least 12 months of motoring until my finances settle and I can consider moving forward once more :o

Can you not borrow the cash from family ETC to pay off the car as once you have a mortgage you would be able to get another car loan to pay off family.
Getting the mortgage is the hard bit - anything after is easy, Trust me.
Unfortunatley not, they're more cash strapped as I am right now :o
Still, as you say, after the mortgage I have more options as things get easier - so it'll give me a chance to plan the next Zed ;)

Maybee our dealership will be able to sell you a nice Zed.
(We need to speak to you soon about website hosting etc)
You may be the only people left willing to deal with them by the time I come to re-purchase, my local dealer has gone to the dogs and has even told ZS to 'try using an MG-Rover dealer'!
Yes, we must get together to discuss at some point :)
Andy / Ralph - I think I should have some time free this weekend if you would like?

Yes they are monty wheels, same as mine on my estate.Would the mg grill fit a monty?
geordie/germany.
I believe the MG Montego grille is a direct replacement for the Austin Montego version, but I am unsure that a Maestro grille of any sort will fit a Montego?
