We plan to be there. Haven't decided between South Bank or opposite the pits yet. It may be a last minute (on arrival at Brands) decision.

King Minger

we should be there! and maybe a seat owning mate of mine....

He's definitely up for thruxton, but i'll try and persuade him to cometo brands too (he's said he won't dissent too much :) )

BeverleyM

We will probably be there.

I would rather not go on South Bank, for no other reason that I don't like the viewing position.
I've always preferred Paddock Hill Bend or somewhere near Clark Curve ish.

I'll see what the majority want to do.

KelV6
06-02-2006, 01:53 PM
South Bank may not be the best viewing, but it gets you and the car into the circuit and how impressive does 50 MGs look all parked together!. :flag1:

Kelv : Would you object to a few non MG owners joining along? I know of a few forum members who dont own them that would like to see some races :)

KelV6
06-02-2006, 03:15 PM
I dont consider myself an orgaiser, so not up to me to say yay or nay, but in the past the convoy of cars arriving on mass has been almost 100% MG, but if they are followers of MG, I have no personal objection, the more flag wavers the better! :ukwave:

Jerry Zedman
06-02-2006, 03:17 PM
I will be going both Sat and Sun. Will deffo have the car on Sat but the wife may have it on Sun as my boy's end of season rugby bash is the same day.:confused2

As to watching the races, the best viewing places* for seeing a lot of action and most of the track are either Clearways or Clark Curve. I'm in favour of sitting opposite the pit entrace.

*Paddock Hill Bend/Druids is also good, possibly better, but you can't see as much of the Indy circuit from these points IMHO! Grandstand viewing is also very good but I'm not paying the extra funds for the priviledge!!!

Kelv : Would you object to a few non MG owners joining along? I know of a few forum members who dont own them that would like to see some races :)
Hopefully not a problem!

Last year when I came along to some of the races, I just parked at the end of or behind the group of MGs. I didn't want to spoil the impact of having a big line of similar looking MGs parked up.

However, I did seem to upset a couple of numpties that were parked on the South Bank last year, by having the audacity to park my Porsche near their MGs. Suffice it to say that they were not Forum or BTCC regulars, and hopefully they will be elsewhere this time around!!

To answer the question - I can't see a problem, as long as we let all the MGs convoy in and park together, and just tag along at the back.

Cheers

Paul

Have to agree its a long walk back to South bank after the pit lane walk about.

Have to agree its a long walk back to South bank after the pit lane walk about.

In past years they've opened the gates so that you can walk across the track to and from the pit lane walk about. (I'll be there and at the meet place but my name is down on another forum list)

I'm going...

camping saturday night.

Ralph
08-02-2006, 01:19 PM
Well, I put my name down ages ago on XPF, but I don't seem to be included in their current list...

I will be going. We may also be handing out some leaflets at the Portobello Inn... I believe that Brands Hatch are quite strict about leafleting - anyone confirm this?

Mrs DMcK
08-02-2006, 02:07 PM
We will be there on the Sunday. No preference over where to park other than having the 3 kids with us (unless we can palm them off on someone for the day.....)

Re leaflets, I have just rung Brands Hatch and they don't allow leafleting. Basically it's because of the amount of litter produced and they do charge for litter pickers if anyone is caught leafleting - this includes in the car parks. She said we were welcome to pay for a trade stall and advertise there.

How much would a big banner cost with the website address on?

GT
08-02-2006, 02:11 PM
There are already plans for some brit-cars.com 'banners' to be made in the near-ish future... however I suspect Ralph was reffering to his new business venture :D

It was the new venture that I was referring to. We are hoping to have an official opening sometime around then (plus or minus two weeks?).

Mrs DMcK
08-02-2006, 06:45 PM
You're welcome.

You'll have to have a banner made up and tie it across the parked cars!

Other than that there's no reason we couldn't display A4 posters inside our cars......

:)

I know Debbie but everytime we got sidetracked and by the time we had finished yakking the gates had been closed so it was a walk around the outside of the circuit to get back to our cars.

KelV6
08-02-2006, 07:38 PM
Exit from inside the circuit can often be so much easier than getting out of the public car park at the end of the race meeting, but you do have to stay to the bitter end I belive (?).

yellowtrophy
09-02-2006, 12:32 PM
I've been able to leave the circuit from South Bank at any time in the past. Certainly as soon as the last BTCC race finishes. We all departed at that point last year.

Anyone camping?

Keith - where are you travelling down from? I will be doing the M6/M6Toll/M40/M25 route, and will be meeting Daveyhird at 9am on Saturday. We could always meet at Warwick again if you're doing a camp-over!

I would have stayed Friday as well normally, but I've been invited on a corporate dinner at Aintree on the Friday, as it is Grand National weekend. It's one onf my biggest Contractors, so I've really got to go.

It is an all day do, and goes on into early evening, although I will not be drinking - I have to set of extra early Saturday morning.

You camping Carl?

last time I was at Brands, was.... 2003 and it was the Indycars event.

I remember it well. It was before I'd joined XPF and the Champ cars were dull - 125 or so processional laps!!!

Then came the real event - Warren Hughes in third place behind 2nd place Matt Neal and Paul O'Neil in first. Last lap and Matt Neal decides to ram Paul O'Neil at the start of Clark Curve and successfully gets passed to take the chequered flag. With O'Neil fish-tailing a damaged car, Warren tries to get passed but gets swiped by the Vauxhall which breaks the MG's steering and send the car off into the gravel and tyre wall. Matt Neal is still allowed to keep the victory but is fined for his action - little consolation to a devistated Warren Hughes.

The only plus to come out from this is that I collected the front wing from the marshalls that had been ripped off of Warren's car by the impact!!!

You cant I dont think! They only open up the area where the BTCC cars are, to the public, during the pit lane autograph session. This is a big down side for Brands, nearly all the other circuits you can get so much closer!

Great to see you'll be coming along too John. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again, even those southern softies like Mr Zedman ;)
Wasn't 2003 the year that one of the Vauxhalls pushed Colin into the tyre wall in the final race?
I'm going to get tickets in advance, including camping, as you save about £11.
I've got a contact at MSV who sorted out parking for us on the South Bank for the last few races there. I'll give him a call a bit closer to the time and see if there is any chance of passes. I think we'll probably have to pay £5 though.

However, given the predicted wet weather over Friday and Saturday, I'd be a little surprised if parking on South Bank is going to be allowed. THe problem is that there is no exit at the bottom of the hill. Once on the grass bank, the only way off is to drive back up the hill. If the grass is wet, this is easier said than done!

Rob Collard article off the Btcc website......looking good Rob ! :flag1:

"It’s a long way from the days of a little black and yellow Renault Clio in the Production class, but in 2006 Rob Collard is set for his best ever shot at the BTCC. The demolition expert will represent one of the best-known names on the grid as he lines up for Team RAC.

Collard’s record as a race-winner and former Independents’ champion was enough to persuade the breakdown specialists that he was the man for them. With Colin Turkington in the second car, it makes for a team that could enjoy much success this season.

At the media launch at Brands Hatch, Collard said: “I feel very honoured to be chosen. It wasn’t just down to who the team wanted, but it was also who RAC wanted. They put their faith in me to represent them and it’s great to have such a big name on the side of the car. The amount of publicity and people taking an interest is awesome.”

“The presentation that the team has done is fantastic. It’s a bit bright, but it’s all very professional…Team RAC is definitely launched!”

For 37 year-old Collard, this will be the first time he has raced in the BTCC with a teammate: “That’s what’s really good about this year”, he said. “Last year, we thought I’d have one, and various names were banded around, but eventually it didn’t come to anything, so I had to do the whole season on my own. But this year I’ve started with a teammate and I’m very pleased it’s Colin. He’s a top driver on and off the track. He’s very, very quick.”

Lacking a teammate did not stop Collard from claiming his first BTCC victory at Knockhill last year, quickly followed by his second in the final race of the season on the Brands Hatch GP circuit.

The opening rounds of 2006 may be taking place on the shorter Indy configuration, but that does nothing to deter Collard: “I’d very much like to start the first race like I finished the last race last season. Obviously a driver’s only as good as his last race and lap record and winning it was awesome. To start 2006 with a win would be an absolute dream come true, but we have to be realistic and just do the best we can on the day.”

Consistency could well be the key for Collard in 2006. Driving the same car as in 2005, albeit with a few modifications, should help in this respect. Indeed, both Collard and his teammate, Colin Turkington, have previous experience of the MG ZS. Lack of funding last year meant that development was restricted, but work has already begun to make the car more competitive ahead of the new season.

After the test session at Brands Hatch, Collard said:"The car went very well. We had a few niggly little problems, nothing major. We got through some good running and tried loads of different setups on the car. Some worked, some didn’t. But generally, it’s been a very promising day."

“We’ve run a new spec engine today, which is definitely an improvement. We haven’t had the maximum out of the car yet. Colin’s been trying new development parts, so he was in and out of the garage a lot. We can go away and study everything and I’m sure we can find another couple of tenths.”

With Team Halfords, VX Racing and SEAT Sport UK all looking strong ahead of the 2006 season, Collard and Team RAC are guaranteed to be in for a tough battle, starting at Brands Hatch on April 8th/9th: “It’s very, very close this year, added Collard. “We just have to make sure we get the most from our package. I think we’ve got a very strong package over the course of the year.”

Good luck to all you camping, but also...

just noticed that the pit lane open session is only 30 MINUTES!!! It used to be an hour which was then cut to 45 then 40 now its only 30. By the time they open it, they'll be getting everyone out so they can clear the pit lane to start race 2!

Brands people need to sort it out! :nono1:

Dave, you have wires crossed. Pit lane does open 10 mins before hand for the drivers. This is standard practice for the cars to get to the grid and ready for the next race. Pit Lane Walk about is for 45 between 12.30 and 13.15, thus being 45 minutes still. This has been the case since BTCC swapped from two races a w/e to three.

Well, the weather held off for the racing...

It started raining heavily just after we got into the pub (apres BTCC!). Then on the way home there was sleet. Going up Detling hill I even met some snow (falling horizontally, not on the ground)!

Anyway, it was a good day with some great racing to watch. Just uploading some photos at the moment...

What a cracking day!! Couldn't believe how lucky we were with the weather, considering as we went thru the Dartford tunnel it was hammering down, then we hit sleet, hail, snow, more sleet, torrential rain and a bit more sleet to be on the safe side! Got to the car about 5, got out of the carpark at just gone 6 and got home just after 10!

oh and the racing was quite good too - had to upgrade Sky to include Motors TV to watch what else went on out of sight! :ukwave:
