The new A1 Grand Prix is starting next week in Brands Hatch. All teams basically have the same cars, so it's Driver an Setup. Anyone else looking forward to this?
Many people are looking forward to this. Should be the saviour of single seater racing and put right much that F1 has got wrong.

The only minor disappointment for me is that there are only 3 races in Europe. Lot's of weird times looking TV

We're all up for it in my household. We've had the tickets now for a week or so. Should be great! The only downside is I never bought a paddock pass at the time. Why should I worry? Dick Bennetts (WSR) is running the NZ team! Paddock passes all sold out!

We'll be there and will probably be a token "All Black" for the weekend. 5 mins with Dick has me sounding like a Kiwi anyway.
Hope my season ticket gets me into the paddock. Should be awsome.:clappy:

I'll see you there then Bob! Any chance I can borrow one of your tickets so I can get into the pits to see Dick B and Co?

It's going to be like world cup single seaters and can't wait .
Just been listening to Johnny Walker on Radio 2. He was interviewing the marketing bloke from A1 Team GB.

Bring it on! I should be able to buy a pit/paddock ticket on the gate on Sunday. I need to see WSR and wish them all the best!

Think you will need to eat an awful lot of burgers and beer to match what I have spent years cultivating. They are photo passes so Sue's would be even less use. See you there anyway.

Date Curcuit and Country Races/Qualifying Channel/Time

it might put somethings right but for it to be only shown on pay tv is not the right way to go imo
it wont gain much interest with the general public only bout 4million pay the £40 or what ever it is to sky for the sports hardly targeting the potental 60m viewers!!

id love to watch but i aint paying for it,,,,,,,,,,what spec are the cars????i.e power, engine size, weight,,tyres etc
3.4L V8's iirc. Developing 520bhp or 550bhp with the limited use 'boost' button. A bit like having a small nitrous cylinder in the car I think.
We watched the qualifying and it does seem as though the racing will be close. WSR did well getting the Team NZL car 2nd on the grid. Quite a few familiar faces in thier pit too.

This is an exciting form of racing. Lola chassis mated with a Zytek 3.4 V8. Rather suprised Robbie Kerr didn't qualify further up the grid than he did.
Remember, it was Robbie Kerr who 'Blitzed' everyone at the LMES event at Silverstone 2004. Quickest guy on the circuit on that particular day.

Brands Hatch as it should be ........ looks fantastic on the telly.
Hats off to Sheikh Maktoum Hasher Maktoum Al Maktoum for having the foresight to go for this, great speach at the start too.
10 minutes in, and I'm hooked :D
For anyone that hasn't got skysports (lime me) there is a live feed at http://www.a1gp.com/media/ (looks like historic F1 cars at the moment)

Didn't care too much for the sprint, but the race was great. Definately something to watch in the winter season.
What a great race ........nobody dominated the lead (well not until the end).....lots of drama and incidents .....i'm just glad the Lebanese driver got out of his car ok ......and what good pictures from the camera in his car !
I'll be watching the next one and hope team GB have some better luck ....we were robbed

Fantastic racing. Agree the sprint race was slightly less interesting than the main, but both put the Brazilian F1 race was put into the shade by both.
I thought the coverage by Sky was good too. Both races, uninterrupted.
All round,,,

It was a great day (for real enthusiasts! I got sunburnt tho! )
Some excellent support races/crashes. Great to have big screens aswell.
What happened to the GB car in the feature race? Gearbox?
If i knew how to load photos on this thread I'd post some! :D

Haven't really found out much about this but is it just a free for all with drivers?
I realise the cars represent various countries but I foolishly though drivers may also be indigenous too, unless Ralph Firman has changed his passport!
The biggest negative with this series will be the TV coverage, it needs to rival F1 and sadly Sky Sports can't offer the veiwing audience to do that. BBC should have boxed clever and backed this one!

Even better in the flesh. May need ear muff next time to hear the commentary as the cars go past. You can smell the speed.
Shame its not on terrestrial or Motors. Just had to sign up for Skysports for an extra £19 just to see the next rounds. (Could have just got Motors for £15.):confused2 But, hey, its only money.:car2:

Not a bad event for Robbie Kerr. Lets hope it gets his career back on track.
:offtopic:
It does amaze me the British press at times. We have a British driver who has just won a major championship in the USA and do you see anything printed? Nope. Dan Weldon at the weekend won the IRL Championship the same chap that won Indy this year as well. First English driver since the Late Graham Hill in the 1960's (to win Indy, that is).
Most people have probably never heard of him Paul. Obviously a talented driver who deserves some recognition, maybe the specialist press will cover it.

Lets hope so Tony. We need more British drivers in F1. Coulthard is an elder statesman. That could just leave Button representing the UK in F1 in say 2007. However, I understand that Anthony Davidson might be in with a chance at Williams.
