Martin to switch to touring cars
By Tim Redmayne Thursday, March 9th 2006, 16:01 GMT
World Rally Championship driver Markko Martin is to switch disciplines to race in the Danish Touring Car Championship this season.
The Estonian WRC event winner did not secure a regular drive in the championship this season, and instead had chosen to run a team in the Estonian national rally series.
He will continue driving this season, however, after reaching a deal to compete in the Danish championship.
Martin will drive a JAS engineering Honda Accord for Hartmann Honda Racing. The deal has come through driver and friend Henrik Lundgaard.
The team had tried to secure a third car for Martin, but when that was not possible, team boss Hans Hartmann chose to stand aside from his driving duties to let Martin race.
The 30-year-old will get his first chance to test the car at a test in Monza in a fortnight's time.
I'm over in Denmark in August. I'm just going to look at the race programme to see if they are racing when I'm there!!!
