My first car was an Austin Apache, fairly rare here in the UK! Still would love to have an Austin 1300GT to play with!
Have a look at www.austinapache.co.uk (http://www.austinapache.co.uk)
This months Retro Cars has caught my interest in the 1300GT!
Still not sure about the bum on those things, and somehow feel I should want the MG 1300 more.
But the Austin seems to get the better interior IMHO, with perhaps Morris in second.
Still, cant help feeling that a 3dr, k-series powered MG 1300 / Austin 1300 hybrid would be a cracking retro car to own :D
In my quest to find out more, I came across http://www.ado16.info/

Just looked at your Austin Apache site, Martin, never seen one of those! It's a real bitsa; 1100 mid-section, 1300/Dolomite rear, Allegro-esque front  - rare as rocking horse poo, I should think.

Corr blimey that name takes me back. My first car was an Austin mini, in fact three mini's (ending up with a 1275 GT, a Marina but it was a Morris, and a metro 1300 auto my wife had upto two years ago.

Rare as over here, I think there are a couple of Spanish ones and a couple of South African ones. Probably rare in Spain now with new car buying incentives from the government. Mine is now in good hands in Manchester.

I was brought up on BL Austins...had great affection for them all. Austin 1800 Landcrab, Austin 3-litre (towed a big caravan around the country with that - no MPVs in those days other than the agricultural Land Rover/Range Rover), Austin Princess (another great tow-car), Austin Ambassador (why oh why did it take BL so long to give the Prinny a hatch :rolleye:). My dad and I also bought a 23k Austin Maestro HLS while I still lived at home: it was the first car we'd ever owned with five gears; we thought it was the bee's knees! My wife came with an Austin Metro as standard equipment when I met her, so I have great effection for that. But Harold Musgrove famously said in 1987 "Young people do not want to drive an Austin", and the name vanished from bootlits and tailgates of new Austin Metros, Maestros and Montegos. Will it ever return? Who knows!

I used to have an All-aggro Sport. It had the quartic steering wheel and strip speedo. One of the valves got stuck open, and that was the end of the engine.
I can't remember owner any other Austins (but then my memory is somewhat flaky). Most of the cars I've owned have been Rovers or MGs.

Authi Victoria - I think Authi was short for Automobiles Hispano or something to that effect.
