on friday morning the drivers door on my zr 160 (mk2) refused to open, i now have to get in/out through the passenger door suffering the indignity of the handbrake in my a**e every now & again, when i unlock the car it makes all the right noises, it's just the pulling the handles (inside or out) doesn't pull the catch to pop 'er open. any ideas? as i say the door will not open at all, tried unlocking with the key (no better), shouting, and all manner of naughty words and none of them work. HELP!!!!!! :wave1:

Can you hear anything rattling from the door? As if anything has broken or come loose?

You'll probably have to try and take the door card off with it closed (is that even possible?) to see if something has broken inside?

Can you use the key in the door and get in that way?

Could be as simple as one of the rods coming off the lock. A pain all the same.

the key unlocks the door, nothing more, there was a small rattle before but nothing major, and there's nothing new when i'm driving about in it now... (not now, now but then...?!?!?!)

interior handle when pulled does have a sound which i haven't heard before, like wires pulling, but that may not have been noticed because of the door actually opening normally, does anyone have any kind of piccy of where the door card clips in? as gt said, is it possible to even just partially pull the door card off? it's driving me to :xmcry: (and a pain in the ****)

Assuming the mk2 is the same...

Remove the interior door handle cover (try not to snap its clips, its easilly done - make sure you can get a spare, just in case (£5 new!)) Behind this you will see some screws to undo to take the handle itself off.

Then, prize the cover from behind the alloy door pull. Its in 2 parts, the inner part comes out first, then the surround comes off.

The I believe there is 1x screw a few inches below the mirror blanking plate (come to think of this, I am wondering if this is in the recess behind the dash-join when the door is closed)

If you can get this out, remove the mirror blanking plate and the rest of the door card pulls off of a set of clips around the edges...

I dont think I've missed anything, although I am sure I have, and pictures would be useful, but I dont have any because the digital camera has packed in :o

sounds as if something has just popped off, I have never had the doorskin off, but will be doing so soon as the electric window mech on my R25 is playing up.

well it's been in for the garage to sort it out, they had the drivers seat out through the passenger door, the door card had to be tyre-levered off due to the screw behind dash not being accessible, and the they had to pretty much destroy the door catch mechanism to get it open.
i haven't got the bill yet (more time to save!), she's all ok (there is a screw where once there wasn't in the door but it doesn't look too bad).

the passenger door is making odd noises occasionally, so that'll be looked at soon, it's going in for a hose to be changed under the bonnet.

fingers crossed, touch wood etc....:)

Any ideas what it was that caused the problem in the first place?
