I'm after a fog lamp to replace a badly stoned-to-death one on my Vi!

The damaged one is on the drivers side, but I am not sure if they are reversable or not ie) whether the passenger one can do a 180° and fit the drivers side.

As best as I can tell, they are the same unit as fitted to my MGZR, so if anyone has one from a Rover 200, Rover 25, MG ZR a Streetwise or any of the CDV's, it would be most welcome. A brief look at one fitted to a Rover 400 suggests they may also share the same part, so again with the Rover 45 or MG ZS.

If anyone has an old one thats MOT passable lying about they they could (for example) take to Wicksteed this weekend, it would be much appreciated!

the other option is to take them off for the MOT

Front fog lights aren't even a testible item seeing as they aren't a required lighting item for all cars

Whilst there are no requirements to have fog lights, I thought it was a stipulation that if present, they must be in operational order and be fitted within certain guidelines (in pairs, certain height from the ground etc..)?

Rob,

I think the 400/ZS uses the 200/25/ZR ones reversed, which means they are not sided.

IIRC of course.

Whilst the exterior casing and the mounting points are identical on the 200 and 25... thats about where it ends :hit1:

The reverse side tells a different story, with the connector to the wiring loom being so different, even the pins are at 90 degrees to each other.

Even if the original connector is used, with the bulb holder connected to it from the 200, the bulb holder itself is different, giving you a square plug / round hole issue.

To top it off further, even the bulbs are different, meaning I cannot reuse a later example bulb I have spare in this car...

So, errr if anyone has a cheap mk3 Rover 200 fog lamp for the drivers side, then it would be most welcome without paying main stealer prices!

Alternitivly get two 25 fog lights and cut a length of wire from the donor car.. then I'll bring round a few connectors (maybe convince al a soldering iron would be good to lend us) and we'll use sticky back plastic to "upgrade" to the newer foglights :) :D:D

The price of all that would make it more expensive than a single 200 unit! :p

If you can't find another unit before MOT time, just drop both out to leave a empty hole, there won't be anything to test then..

MOT or not... I still want the fog light for the car ;)

The 2nd one has already been removed as per people's suggestions.

If its any use I can let you have a ZR one with the correct bulb holder and multi plug for the holder so you can replace the multi plug on you loom. They are sided. or you can butcher a lamp to get a lens off it and seal it to the original upto you how you want to go.

In payment I would like a pair of blanking covers.

We have dropped the fog lamps from the bumpers on the rally cars as they are not needed its something else to get broken.

As for MOT, if its fitted then it must work or it will fail the test.

Sorry Matt, I didnt have any blanking covers to offer as this was just replacing a damaged unit.

I've now sourced an original Rover 200 item with the correct plug, for a reasonable £15!
