V8s sound glorious, loads of torque, but don't rev.
4 cyls, rev easily, but sometimes sound harsh.
V6s have a lovely smooth growl, and will rev, best of both worlds IMHO;)

But having driven a supercharged 4cyl and compared it to the same NAsp engine, I reckon the supercharger is an unsung hero in the petrol world! Bags of Torque!

At the end of the day you cant beat cubic capacity! The 6.2L V12 from a Lambo Murcielago would be my choice. Stock figures are 580 BHP @ 7500 rpm and 480 Ft/Lbs torque @ 5400 rpm.

Nuff said.;)

c.c.s are unbeatable! Bucket loads of pull, oodles of length in each gear, noise to make children jump! Yep, it's gotta be a big V!:music049:

Well of all the cars i've driven/been in- then petrol turbo's are by far the most fun/ exhilerating one's imo!

My 2.0ltr 16v T series engine in my coupe(even when tuned up!)- was rather dull- just a very linear-revvy pull from idle all the way to the red line!

My dad's old monty turbo was real fun!- although harsh sounding when revved hard, when it came on boost at 3krpm- then grin was a big one!:D

My mates sapphire cossie[sp] was like the montego, but even more savage-and even more fun, but sometimes was a bit scary too!(this car used to empty the contents of the dash all over the occupant's when the turbo came!)- it was a real beast!, The down side of this car though was monumental turbo lag!!!!

My supervisor's accord type r is ok, but can become tiresome after a while- cos you have to rev it's nut's off all the time!

My own 180 v6 is ok- nice/smooth- enjoyable kick at 3krpm-and seems to rev pretty well for a fairly big lump too!

But by far the best engine that i've driven/used is the v8 twin turbo lump in me father's lotus esprit!!!!!!!!;) :D :D - big docile lump with plenty of torque!, but monstrously quick when the two thimble sized turbo's spool up-and add to the mix!!!!!:D :D , tbh i think that this engine is nigh on perfect for me- and what i like in car/engine!- you can slip it into 5th gear-and take your feet of all the pedals(whilst moving obviously!)-and it will happily chug you along at 30-35mph- at almost idle-all day long!, but when you need power(say to overtake somet!)- then cogging it down and shoeing it means a huge grin inducing burst of acceleration that shoot's you past stuff with rapidity and ease! -and with only having two small'ish turbo's means there's virtually no lag!- it just flies!

If the money was available to me-and it had been tried and tested before!- then i'd have my 180's v6 twin turbo'd as my next mod tbph!- might even consider the supercharger- (if the money became available!), but unless i win the lotto- this won't be happening!- i inquired about having the kv6 turbo'd- and whilst it has'nt been done yet afai- and the person i was askin knows!-it was'nt completley poo-poo'ed- so maybe in the future!:drink2:  )- you never know!

1520 BHP from a Toyota Supra - thanks to Blair on Triple-m for link;)

It has to be a turbo-charged car for me every time, best of both worlds when it's got loads of torque grunt too - with Blue Harbour on this for definate:clappy:

As is the straight six turbo'd lump from the toyota supra too!(all playstaion generation cars these aren't they!):car1:

Have you ever driven a skyline though Gav????, cos from what i've read/heard- the skyline's are immensly laggy due to having BIG turbo's on em!-and the silly BHP one's are HUGLEY laggy- cos they have soddin massive turbo's on them to make the power!

Not saying there not good or owt like that-cos what the japs have achieved with these motor's is undeniably mind blowing(and when done right there ruddy reliable with it aswell!)

yes i have accually drove a skyline TBH it was still in the original fourm of a twin turbo hadent had the single conversion. the turbo lag can be illinated by using a ballbering turbo rather than the fan turbo and A good Air induction system.

im not saying there the be all and end all but there one of my favorite engine's right now im happy with my 1.4k as its good on the petrol

I have to say aswell that i don't think that bigger engines (v6's/v8's- and so-on and so forth!) are neccasarily more fun-cos look at what can be acheived with smaller engines-that aren't gas guzzlers!

Won't deny though-that bigger engines(especially when coupled with forced induction systems!) can be huge fun!

Just that i've not been in a nasp engined car that i was REALLY impressed with yet tbh!

Was taken out a while ago in an old mg of some discription- that had- had a rover v8 lump whacked in it- and was'nt impressed by that car's performance in any way(straight line acceleration im talking about here!)- lovley sound, just thought it was pretty gutless for the size of the engine!

But back on topic- im always gonna think that turboe'd lumps are more fun than nasp one's!:music049:

The best and smoothest and engine I can remember using was 1100cc, 4 cylinder and had 164bhp! with no turbo's. Had plenty of mid range torque too at least in application I encountered it, it may not have been enough in something heavier.

The KV6 is probably the second best engine I've used, Of all the engines used the KV6 growl is only beaten by Alfa's 4 cylinder lump from the 155, but the Alfa didn't have the pulling power of the KV6.

Tony!- you saying that you think a 4 pot alfa lump sounds better than the kv6?- sure you don't mean the v6 alfa engine???

Still think that for fun-turboe'd lumps give the biggest grins!- it's the delivery(on some of em!)- that feeling of being pinned in your seat and catapulted toward the horizon!!!!MG -Monty and maestro turbo owners will appreciate this!- the lag-and then the silly grin inducing rush- as the turbo kicks in!- just don't think it can be beaten for fun!

I've never had that feeling from any nasp lump i've ever experienced yet!

I'll second that, great fun giving it the :xyxwave: and looking in the rear view to the astonishment of many 'modern' fast car drivers:D

I like all types of engines. I love the rush of a big turbo 4 pot petrol, i also like the mid range pulling power of a turbo diesel, and i also like a revvy smooth normally aspirated engine, depending on mood. Fortunatly i can chose any of these from my current fleet :)
