Not read the above posts but I can tell you that the TR7/8 was the best selling TR of all time. Amazing - at the Speke factory production halted and the line was closed for nearly a year!

Now for the knowledgeable chaps. Who can tell the difference between a Speke built car, Cowley and Canley?

Mines in the memory bank. So does the good magazine also tell us how many engine variants were offered from the works?

Was it one, two, three or four? I might have given a trick number or two:teacher:

Well, I am amazed. Three in total. 2.0 8V, 2.0 16V and 3.5 V8.

What about spotting the differences between Speke, Canley and Cowley models?

Fatman,

Spot on - this car outsold all 2 seaters during its production life. In V8 form absolutely brilliant! See gallery once photo's approved.

True - but just because I have, it doesnt mean that new members will have. :)

We're getting at least 8 hits a week from grassrootscoaching.com that it will all be new too ;)

I've moved the Metro's from 'Classic' to the MMM category, I hope you don't mind.

Shame you don't have a separate area. I don't regard the 6R4 as a Metro 2wd, the engineering is TOTALLY different, but that's another story!

A great ref to Harris Mann! :uj2:

Harris Mann's SV looked better too. And don't even get me started on Mann's Maestro..........

Mann is freelancing again after the demise of MG-R. You can pop around to his pad in Worcester and he'll sketch your car for you in his own inimitable style for you. At a reasonalbe price too. Apparently.

What is this magazine that being refered to. Not that I need anyfurther P.K you understand.

The TR7 was really a class act, really it was. Made my garage a fortune.

It's the car the rubberized bedpan could have been.

I know what you mean - a bit like the rubberized MGB.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Always had a soft spot for the TR7.

Was the Sprint engine fitted in the factory in normal production cars? I thought only the early rally cars got that engine and it was never sold in a normal TR7.

Great action shots of the works rally cars BTW

Car and Driver (a US magazine) herladed the TR8 as

"Nothing less than the re-invention of the sportscar" in 1979.

With suitable updates the TR7 could have carried on for may years, like the MGB and Mx5

You'll note that Lord Sward refrained from such comments, I wonder what the boy is up to? :tongueout Perhaps he's been in a de-rubberised bedpan recently that could out-perform a TR7?:car2:

Surprisingly nice weather we've had this weekend. Did I mention the TR7 was 30 years old?

It was launched in the UK 30 years ago last week I thought?

Sward, for the UK market - I agree. But it was sold in the USA in 1975.

Is it worth getting the mag Martin for this article?

MartinW

It's probably worth the cost for this and the article on the race winning Montego Estate, as well as one page Buying a Dolly guide at the back.
The Magnette article might also impress, or even the Team Sibling Rivalry (3 brothers racing Midgets, MGs that is!).
If you are into old school retro cars of any sort, this mag is worth buying! Also a feature on Retro bloke Jeff Williamson (no relation) from your part of the world, I believe.

Martin,

The TR and Sprint could be inetersting. But not a Montego Estate (disliked them things twenty years ago - MG Maestro as OK - but not this).

Will take a look in a newsagent when I can get to one!

There were a few factory prototypes produced. Only a handful were ever sold to the general public though. When I say a handful... we're talking single figures. Plenty of 7's have been converted though. A much easyer conversion than a TR8 which are as equally rare as Factory MGB GT V8's.

I may drive an MG, but I loved Triumphs first. :)
